DESCRIPTION OF RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Undertake registration and counselling of asylum-seekers and refugees in accordance with UNHCR policies and standards.
  • Undertake routine continuous registration processes such as new arrivals registration, add-on registration verifications on family re-unification basis, new born registrations, activations and deactivations reflective of refugees' movements, issuance of ration cards, monitoring general food distribution using biometrics, updating ProGres on registration events and such other routine tasks.
  • Assist in the identification of vulnerable asylum-seekers and the prioritization of their registration, referral and assistance in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Assist in determining and implementing appropriate registration strategies and systems for populations of concern to meet operational objectives, priorities and standards for registration.
  • Undertake data collection data processing and analysis in accordance with UNHCR Registration guidelines as well as Sub Office Shire operational objectives, SOPs, and work plans
  • Provide statistics and data analysis as required.
  • Assist in implementation of agreed registration strategies and systems for populations of concern to meet standards for registration
  • Working under close technical guidance of the Field Officer and the  Database operations manager  ensure that routine or need-based statistical and registration reports are done expediently and accurately
  • Undertake refugees' registration processes, implement bio-data updates and clean-ups on regular basis
  • Assist the office in updating registration SOPs on registration activities as well as the designing relevant forms to implement registration activities.
  • Assist in monitoring the refugee situation including movements, analysis of caseload profile,  and change in trends
  • Assist in organizing registration and database usage training for protection staffs in the camps
  • Perform other related duties as required
  • Perform any other additional related duty as may be assigned or required by the supervisor

Job Requirement

Essential Minimum Qualifications and Experience 

  • Completion of the Secondary Education with post-secondary training/certificate in Statistics, Computer science, Information Technology. A degree in IT or computer science is an added advantage.
  • Minimum 2 years of previous comparable work experience.
  • Good computer skills in all desktop applications, particularly with respect to data management competencies. (Good knowledge of UNHCR ProGres database is an added advantage)
  • Fluency in English (both oral and drafting skills)

Desirable Qualifications & Competencies

  • Completion of UNHCR specific learning/training activities
  • Training on data analysis or previous experience in UNHCR are added advantages.
  • Completion of UNHCR learning programmes or specific training relevant to functions of the position
  • Knowledge of Tigrigna language is desirable
