Organizational Context
Under the direct supervision of the Protection Associate, the critical role played by
the Litigation Assistant in the registration/verification centers is to deal jointly with any
situation which may prevent genuine refugees from being included in the crucial L3
registration process crucial process. S/he will ensure that no deserving refugee is
denied the right to be registered and verified. S/he will also process babies and
young children who may not yet appear on a family’s attestation. Interviews with
family members and documentation like clinical records like vaccination cards help to
corroborate refugee claims during litigation.
Work Environment:

Camp setting: The situation in camps is relatively stable but remains
unpredictable; there is potential conflict between sub-clans/ ethnic groups in most
camps.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Within the guidance provided by the relevant standard operating procedures
regarding L3 registration:

Receive purported refugees whose fingerprint check has resulted on a
negative match at the Reception.
Receive all refugees who may report a concern, issue regarding registration.
Advise refugees on their obligations and rights;
Ensure data in UNHCR proGres is corrected according to the litigation results.
Provide statistics and data analysis as required of distribution disputes and
recommendations in line with SOPs;
Monitor and report on the process and draft routine correspondence;
Act as interpreter and translator when needed;
Perform other related duties as required.2

Essential Minimum Qualifications and Experience

Completion of secondary school or post-secondary certificate/training in Law,
Human Rights, and Social Science or related.
At least 5 years of progressively responsible experience, previous experience
working in the field of Law, Human Rights, related.
Must be fluent in spoken and written English:
Fluency in local language is required.
Proficiency in Ms-Word required.
Desirable Qualifications & Competencies







University Degree in Law, Human Rights, Social Sciences, or related.
Good interpersonal and problem-solving skills and flexibility.
Must be interested and committed to Human Rights, Gender Equality.
Be able to work effectively in unstable, challenging, and fast-paced environments.
Ability to keenly observe confidentiality and discretion.
Ability to work as part of a TEAM.
